Frank Gehry 1


Frank Gehry was born on February 28, 1929 and was raised into a Jewish family in Toronto Ontario. Gehry’s father Irving married his mother Thelma, Irving worked different jobs and liked to fight in the streets for money. This was passed down to Frank, he was a Boxer and participated in full-time Karate. As a child Frank used to get bullied, Kids would call him “fish” because he smelled, this made him lose interest in his religion. He was creative with architecture like his grandmother Caplan. Both would build little cities out of scraps of wood. He had realized his passion for buildings and decided to make a career out of it. He moved to California and studied at Los Angeles City College and graduated from the University of Southern California’s School of Architecture. After graduation he spent time in the field of architecture in numerous other jobs such service in the U.S. Army. He attended Harvard Graduate School of Design to study city planning. He was married and divorced to Anita Snyder and remarried to Berta Aquiler. He has two daughters from his first wife and two son’s from his second wife. Gehry spent many years working in traditional architecture for the firms Pereira and Luckman, Victor Gruen Associates, and Andre Remondet. He experienced money problems during much of his firms early days.
